Along the Golden Trail of the Bohemian Paradise All the Way to Trosky

A moderately demanding hike with a visit to Valdštejn Castle and stunning views of the rock city and Hrubá Skála Chateau.

From Hrubý Rohozec Chateau, you can head to Turnov either along the main road or take the castle steps down to the Jizera River. There, turn right and follow the river downstream (about 15 minutes). You’ll pass the Turnov město train stop and continue in the direction of Mašov.

From there, the path begins to climb toward the Hlavatice rock viewpoint. After enjoying the view, continue along the red hiking trail, which leads you to Valdštejn Castle (a short detour off the main path). From the castle, follow the red trail again toward Hrubá Skála. Along the way, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the Hrubá Skála rock town, a dramatic landscape of sandstone towers.

The Hrubá Skála Chateau is not usually open to the public, but in summer, the courtyard and tower are sometimes accessible. From the chateau, continue following the red trail to the Podtrosecké Ponds (Věžák, Krčák, Vidák). The path then leads through the village of Tachov and finally to the majestic Trosky Castle.

The route is slightly easier if taken in the opposite direction.
